Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Nears as Treasuries Stack ETH
Ethereum's biggest upgrade since the Merge is almost here. Glamsterdam, now in final testing and targeted for the third quarter, aims to roughly 10x the network's throughput and cut fees by nearly 80 percent. ETH itself is quiet, around 1,768 dollars. The price is not pricing the upgrade. Not yet.
Ethereum's long-running problem has been simple. It is the most-used smart contract network and also one of the slower and pricier ones when traffic spikes. Most of its scaling has been pushed up to layer-2 rollups sitting on top of the chain. Glamsterdam goes back to the base layer, trying to make the main chain itself far faster and cheaper without giving up decentralization. The name is a mash-up, like its predecessors, but the goal is serious.
The numbers are big. The block gas limit is set to climb from 60 million to 200 million, with throughput targets reaching toward 10,000 transactions per second, roughly ten times what the network clears today. Backers project fees dropping about 78 percent across both simple transfers and complex smart contract calls. Under the hood it adds Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation and Block-Level Access Lists, plumbing changes that let blocks process faster. Originally floated for June, the upgrade slipped to the third quarter as developers kept it in devnet testing.
The token has not moved much on it. ETH trades around 1,768 dollars, down about 1 percent on the day and sitting near its 50 and 200-day moving averages, a quiet, undecided tape. Where the conviction shows is in treasuries. Corporate ETH buyer BitMine added another 136 million dollars of ether recently, funded by a preferred stock sale, extending a position reported around 5.6 million ETH. Steady accumulation while the price drifts.
Upgrades like this tend to matter more after they ship than before. The promise is real. Cheaper and faster base-layer Ethereum could pull activity back from rollups and strengthen the case for ETH as the settlement asset. The risk is execution and timing, since the slip from June to the third quarter is a reminder these dates move, and a network this large does not change quickly without careful testing. For now the catalyst is on the calendar, not in the price.
So Ethereum is doing big work quietly. A base-layer overhaul that targets ten times the speed and a fraction of the fees, treasuries stacking ether into the wait, and a token that is barely reacting. The upgrade is the story to watch into the third quarter. The market just has not turned to look yet.
